Failure is Not Scary

In a normal situation, the word "failure" is negative.

People are afraid of failure and perceives it as something they are ashamed of.
We often feel lonely and helpless because of the failures we think we've made.

Is failure that scary?
I believe many people branded failure as a matter to be avoided of.

Today I would like to talk to everyone about failure. Do you think failure is scary?

According to a research about the top 3 things that people fear the most, the fear failure is positioned at the third.

I remember I used to be someone who is afraid of failure because I have never gotten any certificate during my schooling years, neither did I get any assurance from anyone, including my parents, teachers and classmates.

The only time I got up to the stage was when my principal gave me the title of being "the worst prefect" in front of more than a thousand students. But before this, he just gave my friend a title of being "the best prefect".

I thought I do not have any talents at all. I couldn't do anything! Nothing at all! I always thought that I could only do what others have started, never get anything done well. Thus the thing that I've done for others were never completed too.

I couldn't imagine my future. Therefore I tended to run away from myself, leading a purposeless life. I hated it when people ask about my future or what am I going to do in the future etc.

Ok! I think some of you might the same with me, having too many failures in life!

And here comes the main point, is it possible that we never fail again? Can we find a shortcut to success?

The good news is, we can't run away from failure forever, but we have to face it with courage because there's no shortcut to success. If you want to squeeze into the que of success, then you have to overcome every failure, learn from it and make sure not to make the same mistake again.

If you are still trying to avoid failure, then failure itself will go near to you. In other words, the more you are afraid of failure, the higher the tendency of you to fail.

First, we need to understand the difference between "failure" and "temporarily defeated".

We got to ask ourselves, those things that seem seemingly "failure" are in fact only your "temporary defeat".

Failure is the result of a combination of actions, it doesn't determine what kind of person you are all the time. Only when you stopped moving forward and continue to strive for success then the failure comes in.

If you've set a target for yourself of reading a piece of English article everyday, but after a week, you do not read a total of 7 articles, does it mean that you have failed?

No. The fact here is the effort you put in does not bring any effectiveness and you not reach the goal that you set earlier.

If you are willing to try again, reallocating your time, plan a schedule, and see if you could achieve the target?
If no, then try another solution.

You do not fail, these are only temporary obstacle. You are learning the ways to reach your goal through these experiences.
This is the same with the experiments of the scientist in a laboratory. They do not lose confidence after a one time failure. But they learn what to do and what not to do in their next experience.

In fact, the best way to test a person in life is via the acceptance of failure. Because every time that we failed, we stepped a little closer to success.

We might fail again but the new hard work is another whole new process in our life.

When we view failure as a transition process, we would understand that whatever we are doing now is not the end result of it.

A temporary defeat would not turn into a failure under consciousness if one decided to take it as a lesson. In fact, there is a lesson in every defeat, and we can only learn it through defeat.

After Thomas Edison got the copyright of kinetoscope, he was then trying to invent an animation. But on an unfortunate night in 1941, his film laboratory caught in a fierce fire. When Edison made it to the laboratory with his car, all of his apparatus are already swallowed by the fire.

When Edison was instructing the people to put off the fire, he kept taking something that looked like a notebook out from his pocket. People find it strange and thought that this sudden fire had also swallowed Edison's healthy mind and had turned him insane. But later then they found out that Edison was writing his plans and blueprint to rebuild his laboratory. In fact, Edison had got all his plans ready after a few hours of the fire accident and put them into actions right the next day of it.

Edison had fully shown his positiveness and humour through this fire accident. While directing the firefighters to put the fire off, he told them "Hey, go tell your mothers to come, this huge fire accident are hard to come by, we might not see such a large scale of fire in the future."

Nobody would ever thought that on the next day of the fire, Edison did not only start rebuilding his laboratory, he also started to invent another invention - a torch light for the firefighters. He realised it was hard for the firefighters to put off the fire in the dark the previous day.

This fire had caused Edison to lose the money he spent on factory and apparatus. His wife was sad and said that after many years of efforts, all were gone in a fire. And now that they were young and weak, how were they going to rebuild the laboratory, it was a tough job. But Edison comforted her and said "It's ok. I might be 67 years old but I'm not old. Everything still start afresh from tomorrow morning. I believe nobody would be too old to restart a work."

Edison started his new laboratory and experiments the next day like there wasn't any fire accident at all. He was full of strength and work even harder than he had ever been. He continued his works to invent an animation. The fire was just a part of the process.

"A failure thinks of an excuse, but a successful person thinks of a solution!"

Are you still afraid of failure? Don't worry, I will pray for you.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FAILURE

Robert H. Schuller

Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure,

It does mean you haven’t succeeded yet.

Failure doesn’t mean you have accomplished nothing,

It does mean you have learned something.

Failure doesn’t mean you have been a fool,

It does mean you had a lot of faith.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ve been disgraced,

It does mean you were willing to try.

Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it,

It does mean you have to do something in a different way.

Failure doesn’t mean you are inferior,

It does mean you are not perfect.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ve wasted your life,

It does mean you have a reason to start afresh.

Failure doesn’t mean you should give up,

It does mean you must try harder.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ll never make it,

It does mean it will take a little longer.

Failure doesn’t mean God has abandoned you,

It does mean God has a better idea.
